Akenkan Mufti Day
With the support of Divine Chocolate, pupils celebrated the cocoa producing country of Ghana with fairtrade hot chocolate and Divine chocolate tasters.  This was a wonderful event which raised awareness of Ghana as well as raising money for Akenkan.

Debrief with Street Child Africa
On 16th October, 13 pupils met with Jacqui Hegarty from the charity Street Child Africa to relay their eye-opening experience of visiting one of the charity’s projects when on expedition in Ghana this summer.  For one day in July, the Akenkan team were welcomed at a House of Refuge in Ghana’s capital, Accra.  Here, vulnerable young women are given a secure home and are trained in skills to help them earn money.  The team also visited the crèche where these women’s children receive free, high quality education.  It was wonderful to talk with Jacqui about this humbling experience and to understand first-hand the important work of Street Child Africa in helping people who have had few opportunities in their life.  We are looking forward to working with Street Child Africa more in the future.

Christmas Fair
As well as the Akenkan books, beautiful handmade products were on sale, all crafted from Ghanaian fabrics and beads.  Thank you to all pupils who made lavender hearts, key rings, gift tags and gift cards.  The stall was stunning.

Divine Chocolate takes Akenkan books to Ghana
On a recent trip to Ghanaian cocoa farming communities, Divine Chocolate took some Akenkan books with them to give to rural schools. These books were a huge success. Wendy Rowan, Divine Accounts Manager, wrote that the Ghanaian children "were really getting stuck in to the stories, each word and each colourful illustration. I reluctantly had to take the books off them after the photos but assured them that the headmaster would make them available to students in due course. Thank you again for giving them to us." The next Akenkan book, to be printed shortly, is called ‘Where the Cocoa Beans Go'. Expertly written by Emma Dawson and illustrated by Inji Kang, it is the story of a girl whose family belongs to the Kuapa Kuapa cocoa farming union which makes Divine chocolate. Divine are planning to take approximately 50-100 copies of this book to Ghana when they run a summer school later this year.

Diana Award
Inji Kang, talented illustrator of two Akenkan books, won a prestigious Diana Award for her work on Akenkan.  This is richly deserved for a pupil who has shown outstanding dedication to supporting such a good charitable cause.
