Year 9 Global Day
Pupils listened to a talk by Jacqui Hegarty from the charity Street Child Africa. Jacqui spoke about a project they run in Accra (capital of Ghana) which helps girls living on the streets. Pupils participated in a trading game to exemplify how difficult it is for farmers/producers in less developed countries. Pupils could then use the 'money' earnt to buy a simple African style lunch. Pupils finished off the day by writing their own poems to include in a special Year 9 Akenkan Poetry Anthology, which will be taken to Ghana as part of the Akenkan series of books in July 2012.

Talk by Michael Bonsu
Michael Bonsu, a teacher from Lambeth Academy, came to talk to pupils in the Akenkan project about life in Ghana. Michael is Ghanaian and provided a great insight into life and traditions of the country. This helped pupils ensure that the books they were writing and illustrating were appropriate for a Ghanaian child.
